Activate the Energy Pathways in Your Body to Relieve Chronic Pain, Heal Headaches, Treat Depression, and Even Quit SmokingThe human body is filled with energy pathways, similar to the electrical wiring of a house. These pathways are called meridians and in traditional Chinese medicine they play a significant role in our wellbeing. Much like how a faulty wire or connection can cause a problem with the electricity working properly in a house, an imbalanced or blocked meridian in your body can cause health problems. Enter acupuncture. Acupuncture works by sending a signal to your brain that it needs to address an unbalanced area in the body by either lowering the excess energy in that location or raising its current deficiency. To stick with the electric analogy, acupuncture is like switching a light on or off depending if it’s the day or night. By addressing these imbalances acupuncture can relieve chronic pain, heal headaches or migraines, and offer relief to those suffering from anxiety or depression. It can even help you quit smoking. Almost anything — except emergent trauma — can be treated by acupuncture. Come find out why we're considered an acupuncture Calgary leader.

Reduce the Pain and Mental Anguish That Accompanies End of Life Situations Through Palliative CareWhen treatment shifts from curing to symptom management and comfort care, acupuncture is a very powerful tool in making a patient’s remaining moments on earth as comfortable as possible. By releasing the body’s natural pain killing opioid during the administration of acupuncture, palliative patients are able to improve their sleep, decrease discomfort, and elevate their quality of life. Aside from the physical relief provided, acupuncture can also help a person facing the end of their natural life cope with the depression, anxiety, worry, and grief that accompanies such a situation.
Acupuncture can also be beneficial for the caregivers and loved ones of a palliative patient, as it helps to safeguard against compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). |
Combat the Side Effects of Cancer Treatment or Opioid Pain Killers in a Natural WayRadiation and chemotherapy destroy cancer cells, but they also destroy healthy cells too. Acupuncture can be used to help combat the side effects of this cellular destruction, which includes nausea, vomiting, mouth sores, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, bloating, headaches, and skin rashes. Not only is acupuncture a natural and safe alternative to opioid pain killers, it can also help you deal with the side effects brought on by these powerful drugs such as constipation, difficulty breathing, drowsiness, and a loss of appetite. Acupuncture has also been found to help relieve bed sores, skin wounds, and fluid retention. Symptoms related to organ failure like bowel obstruction, rapid heart beat (tachycardia), breathlessness, and coughing up excessive sputum may also have their treatments assisted through acupuncture.

How does it relieve pain?
Scientific studies have shown that acupuncture relieves pain by releasing endorphins during treatment, the body’s natural opioid pain relievers. Research has also discovered a link between acupuncture point stimulation (where the needle has been inserted) and the deactivation of pain receivers in the brain via the spinal cord.
Does it hurt?
The needles used during acupuncture are tiny (0.16 millimetres thick - about the thickness of a human hair!) and cause only a slight pricking sensation when inserted. At no time should the treatment be painful.
