Always Feel Fatigued? Unusual Headaches or Clouded Thoughts? A Candida Overgrowth Could Be the Cause
Up to 70% of people may be suffering from candida overgrowth and most do not even know it. If you consume too many sugar-rich foods, have a high carb diet, or consume alcohol excessively then the candida in your body is at greater risk of being too high. Symptoms of candida overgrowth are common of many other health problems, so oftentimes candida can be misdiagnosed or dismissed.
Testing Options
There are a few ways that we can assess for candida overgrowth:
1. Candida Questionnaire - Our Naturopathic Doctor will administer a questionnaire that objective rates symptoms and signs of candida / yeast allowing for an estimate of the likelihood of an overgrowth.
2. Stool testing - Collecting a sample of your stool and sending to the lab to test for candida / yeast in the stool can yield a fairly definitive result on whether or not an overgrowth is occurring. The stool can be tested for candida / yeast alone, or a comprehensive digestive stool analysis may be recommended if it seems likely that bacteria, parasites, and/or gut inflammation are compounding the symptomatic picture.
3. Blood testing - Similar to the IgG Food Sensitivity Testing, our naturopathic doctor will draw a small sample of blood that can be sent to Rocky Mountain Analytical to test for immune markers (IgG, IgA, IgM) against candida. These tests can be helpful for the diagnosis of candida in an individual with a well-functioning immune system. It is important to note that true infection and colonization by yeast cannot be differentiated by this test. A positive test must be interpreted with the patient's clinical presentation and with established diagnostic protocols/ procedures. Immunocompromised patients may exhibit poor or variable antibody responses.
If an overgrowth is occurring, our Naturopathic Doctor can work with you to put a treatment plan in place which will bring it down to the healthy amount and build up your gut microbiome to keep candida in check.
