Motivational Interviewing is an approach evolved from Roger’s Client-Centered Therapy to help a client commit or implement change in their life. This approach is often used when a client is ambivalent to change and it helps a client find internal motivation needed to change a behaviour. The therapist is mindful of how difficult it can be to make changes in life and the therapeutic process is geared toward meeting the client where they are at so the client can determine when they are ready to make a change in their life.
This approach is typically used to address behavioural changes such as managing one’s health or addressing addiction issues.
