Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) tends to be a time-limited therapy that focuses on the present. This is a strength-based approach of which the client is regarded as the expert of his or her life and the therapist works with that person to identify solutions to the issues that are presented in session. If the client identifies solutions that worked in the past, they are encouraged to continue to implement those solutions in the present. If a solution does not work then the therapist and client collaboratively come up with other possible solutions to address the issue.
This approach can be particularly useful for people who feel stuck and are struggling to find a way to cope with their concerns.
